Tara Findlay Yoga Meditation Spa Massage Therapist FernieI graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy 9 years ago in 1999, and have been constantly upgrading my education ever since. It is my goal to continue to explore and implement new strategies for wellness treatments. I am committed to provide my clients with the most effective treatments, to determine the origin of discomfort, and to manage the symptomatic pain. My modalities include Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy, Craniosacral Therapy, Connective Tissue Therapy, Breath Work, and Yoga Therapy. Together, these techniques draw the energy, mind, and consciousness out of the head down into the body, creating a more integrated way of being.

Anusara Yoga Tara Findlay Fernie Oasis SpaI have a passion for learning and self growth, so 2009 will include completing my Anusara Immersions and Level 1&2 Anusara teacher trainings, as well as studying with John friend, founder of Anusara Yoga for a weekend workshop and a Yoga Therapy Workshop. I will also complete Advanced Yoga Therapy training in the fall, as well as start an Anatomy Trains / Structural Integration Program. I believe a forgotten key aspect of health is “self-awareness”. Most people today live in a mental state unattuned to their body’s needs. Receiving regular massage treatments brings you back in tune with your body and increases your self awareness. This awareness will allow you to decipher the signals (PAIN) your body sends off to indicate something is wrong. Thus, preventing or being proactive to any injuries or diseases.

My goal for 2010 is to fully integrate Yoga therapy into my Therapy sessions thus rounding out each treatment for more effectiveness. I am also writing my autobiography and once completed, plan to travel on a book signing and seminar tour.

I welcome you to visit my website, www.TaraFindlay.com, to learn about yoga and massage trainings I offer. www.TaraFindlay.com also includes a more in depth interview on the bio page, which gives you a bigger picture of some of my most important work.

I am a girl who was “pushed” into the massage field (literally!).  After a car accident in 2001 which left me with some crazy whiplash and a need for an exceptional massage therapist I changed the life goal from Veterinarian to Therapist.  I attended the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Ontario and graduated in 2004.  My first “big gig” was as a massage therapist at Island Lake Lodge here in Fernie.  I was so happy to be back in BC, but missed to busy life in Ontario.  So, I did what any rational girl would do and bounced back and forth between the Rockies of BC to the wonderful cities of Ontario.  I worked every spring, summer, and fall our east and traveled back out west for the snow and family in winter.  But, finally, my Kootenay roots took hold and I landed firmly in Fernie.

Now with 4 years under my belt I am surer than ever of my career choice.  I love working with the therapeutic and relaxation specialists’ that we are so lucky to have here in our small community.  Having people walk away feeling better about their bodies and themselves is a huge reward.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I wish for everyone to relax more.  Take a small percentage of your time that you normally just give and give to others and, instead, help yourself; you’ll always find that this is the way you can continually keep on giving!

I believe that to help others I definitely need to keep growing myself.  As I delve further and further into my career I see additional skills and talents being brought on board.  From body treatments to pedicures to deep tissue therapy, I am confident to see that you go home happy and healthy.

I will continue to grow and change in this community of ours and help you along your path of growth as well…simply by being here for that extra “you” time.

I graduated from Marvel College in 2007 with an Esthetics Diploma, along with certificates in Make-up Artistry, Nail Technology, Reflexology, & Spa Therapies. I am also CIABC certified. In October 2007, I took my Swedish Massage as well as Hot & Cold Stone Massage certification. I am constantly keeping up to date with new facial techniques & preventative care for your skin. I came home to Fernie after graduation, and immediately joined the crew. I am an awesome team player, with a quiet demeanor, & great sense of humor!

I love the healing power of Yoga, and Traditional Thai Massage. I am passionate about helping others facilitate deeper levels of physical and spiritual healing through the breath and body movement, which are key components of these ancient practices.

I have been teaching creative flow and core stability classes in Fernie since the fall of 2007. I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Trinity Yoga (now Giaitri Yoga www.gaiatri.com) in December 2007. Their program is highly regarded in the Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton yoga circuit and offers a classical yet contemporary approach to yoga, with influences in Ashtanga and Anusara. It is my commitment to continue to add to the tools that I can provide my clients to help them maintain balance and happiness in their lives.

For the fall of 2009 I will be expanding my teaching to include classes in 50+ yoga, yin yoga and restorative yoga. I will continue my studies in Yoga Therapy with Susi-Hately Alduos, integrating the art of slowing down and body mechanics more deeply into my teaching, to aid those with chronic injury, pain or ongoing challenges. I am also pleased to be able to integrate my newest compliment of skills – Traditional Thai Massage (often referred to as Thai ‘Yoga’ Massage) into my classes. I began studying Thai Massage with Kristin Nuttal of SacredAsia School of Ancient Thai Massage (www.ancientthaimassage.ca) in November 2008 and have since completed an Advanced Applications of Therapeutic Thai Massage Training in July 2009.

I am so pleased to be able to offer Therapeutic and Relaxation Thai Massage to the clients of Oasis Spa. The practice includes a combination of gentle full-body stretching, and targeted acupressure point massage to ease tight joints and muscles to calm your whole being. The benefits include increased flexibility, relief from muscular tension, improved circulation, aids digestion, improved skin appearance, boosts the immune system and balancing of the recipient’s energy body. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation and physical and mental well being.

I am registered member with both the Thai Healing Alliance and the Yoga Alliance.

I feel that my commitment to ensuring a safe environment and lasting experience is what makes your time with me unique. I look forward to serving you.
